Next song has Rainy Daze rockin' a little bit harder with their song Try A Little Harder. This song was released as a single and reached #70 nationwide until radio program directors finally realized what the song was about.heaven forbid! But I guess those were different times. They also wrote lyrics for Strawberry Alarm Clock too. Tim Gilbert and John Carter wrote the lyrics for this song. That Acapulco Gold is a cool song that has a vaudeville feel to it. I absolutely cannot stand when groups have to try to see how many good songs that they can squeeze into a space of three drives me crazy and it should never be done! Uuuggghhh.Īll right.side two starts with Discount City which is another original that is just kind of thrown together with cheezy lyrics. Ending the first side is a melody combination of Sam Cooke's Shake, Eddie Floyd's Knock On Wood, & Otis Redding's Respect that sounds forced at best. Out of a Calico Dream is another original that is kind of a psych sunshine pop song.
Weatherman is an original with some decent fuzz guitar. Next comes a pedestrian cover of Smokey Robinson's Baby, I Need Your Lovin' which more inline with Johnny River's version.but not as good. Side one starts with Absurd Bird which is ok.a bit cliche' for the 60's talking about some girl that's high on herself. Half of it is covers.the other half are originals. This record is really hard to find but if you happen to come across it.and you're not about to support some used record store clerk's pricey drug habit.pick it up, just for the simple reason of it's intrigue. Yes.the title of their album, which was also a minor hit for them is about mexican pot. The Rainy Daze is a Denver, Colorado psych group that only released one album called "That Acapulco Gold" back in 1967 on the UNI label. I just happened to be listening to this today.
